Officially 28 weeks today and entering the 3rd trimester! It is surreal how fast everything has passed by. I can't believe one of my tickers say 83 days left!
I am feeling great. Heartburn has greatly subsided for now! Weird that the bigger I am getting the better I feel. I know, I know, everyone says wait until the 9th month. The only symptom is the leg cramps at night. I hate the charlie horse in the calf if I don't stretch with my toes pulled up. Granted I have only had 3 in the last month or so, but feel the tightness most nights. I noticed a big correlation with them and a lack of magnesium in my diet. I get a lot of calcium and potassium already in my diet. So the other nutrient deficiency mentioned likely is magnesium and it is in beans and dark greens, etc. So if I eat some of that a few times a week, then I seem to be okay...until I forget and then get the cramps again. Another reason to enjoy my Mexican food often. ;0) Also, my weight gain really tapered off this month. I lost 2 pounds with the virus, so I am back up to only 151 today. Still normal range, but only gained 1 1/2 pounds in a month (17 total so far). I think it is due to feeling better and not needing to snack often to keep my blood sugar up like in the previous months.
We had our monthly midwife appointment this morning (going to be every 2 weeks from now on). Boy, do I really like her. She is so good at explaining everything and knowledgeable. Sydney's heartbeat was nice and strong. She also is head down for the most part--a little diagonal and seems to have her back towards my belly--which is good. The midwife said that she can flip over easily, but it is good she is preferring the proper set up for delivery. =) I could definitely tell that she is upside down because she has been kicking me in the right ribs quite a bit and bumping around in my lower left side with her arms, etc. I will feel a heaviness at times and the midwife said that is probably due to her head pushing on my cervix area...a good thing in the long run. Also I will feel her punching and moving down towards my rear end/cervix area...it is a bizarre feeling, but the back to the belly explains those movements.
I also passed my glucose screening. Yay! My midwife gives a number of different options to check for gestational diabetes... I chose the at home glucose finger prick one. Five times I had to prick my finger two hours after a regular meal to check my blood sugar levels. Five times I had to check in the morning before breakfast (the fasting one). Pretty much like a normal diabetic has to check. I love this option because you are able to check to see what your body is doing during a normal eating schedule and is less likely to give you a false positive than the glucose drink. It was crazy that one morning my fasting reading was 95--a little borderline and higher than my usual... but then I came down with the stomach virus that day @ lunch time. I read that your blood sugar is a little high when your body is trying to fight off something in order to give your immune response some energy. It is amazing to me how our bodies work...we have an awesome God. I just love medical stuff...hee hee.
We also registered last weekend for our baby showers coming up. I can't believe they will be here before we know it. I am so blessed with great friends and family. I will be having one April 9th from my church and one on April 30th from my family. I am grateful they are earlier rather than later since I am such a planner. =)
We are also scheduled beginning of May for our birth class. We are having a "private tutor" one at our house...but it is cheaper! And my husband is not too keen on the group setting talking about such personal things. =) The teacher was highly recommended by a few people I know, so I am looking forward to it.
Okay, trying not to be too long here, but hey it is kind of my journal. =) I am debating on whether to get a Moses basket or a bassinet for those first few months in our room. (We are already going to have the pack/play bassinet on the main floor in the living room for sleeping and frequent diaper changes.) I know that the basket can be more portable and convenient, but we have a cat and a dog. It is also cheaper and functional as organization after baby use is over. A bassinet is higher up to be accessible easier from the bed and away from the floor with the animals. But it is only for a few months, so I don't want to spend alot on such a thing. I am going to check the consignment and yard sales coming up soon in my area. Maybe I can find something cheap and still in good condition.
Well, we are praising God for this sweet blessing on the way. I am loving every minute of this pregnancy and trying to take it one day at a time... as an infertile, I am not guaranteed any more pregnancies. Thank you, God for this snowflake miracle!

Glad things are going well for you! Just an FYI... There is a natural supplement called natural calm plus calcium that is a magnesium/calcium powder you stir into water. I take it every day and notice that if I skip a day or two, I get the worst leg cramps! I get it at a natural foods warehouse, but you can also get it online. One small container lasts me a couple of months. Welcome to the third trimester. We are getting close now!
Sounds like you are doing really good! I CANNOT believe you are already in your third trimester!!! The private tutor option for your birthing class sounds great. So glad you are feeling better. I can't wait to hear about those fun baby showers!
Oh. . . we need a new belly pic!!!
I have been getting Charlie Horses in my legs too at night...very painful! :(
Have fun registering for Sydney! :)
Your husband sounds like mine~ wanting to keep everything private! =) Glad everything is looking good with Sydney. I can't believe you're already in the 3rd trimester! Have tons of fun registering- love all the pink stuff!! And I agree w/ Elizabeth- need another belly pic! ;)
I can't believe how quickly time has flown by! Pretty soon all you September transfer mamas are going to be posting birth announcements! Congrats on reaching the third trimester!
Time flies doesn't it?? WOW! What a blessing little Sydney is! HUGS!
It was so good to read all that's going on with you! I've been having the tightness in my calf too. I think I'll look up Tracey's suggestion.
As far as bassinet vs. Moses basket- I would definitely go with the bassinet- especially since you have pets. We had both. I thought the Moses basket was pretty and a nice idea, but I really didn't need it as a carrier. We always used the infant carrier that came with our car seat. I also didn't like how Gracie "rolled" around in the basket. I bet you'll find a really nice bassinet at a consignment store. In our case- I foolishly thought that our little one would never be in our room, but would immediately use the crib. A group of our friends, who laughed when they heard that plan, bought our bassinet for us. :)
I just continue to love walking this journey with you. ; )
I am so excited to see you are in that 3rd trimester. I loved our bassinet. I found ours on Craigslist. I can't wait to see your baby shower pics next month! fun!!
